See you there!
Paarl, named after the impressive granite rocks that dwarf the town below, was first visited by a European party in 1657. They watched the dawn sun reflecting off the glistening boulders and named it Peerlbergh (Pearl Mountain).
Paarl Mountain’s 500-million-year-old domes are one of the world’s largest granite outcrops, second only to Ayers Rock in Australia. Impressive!
P.S. Come check out Paarl Rock for yourself this Saturday. Our weekly Lazy Days Market boasts a great selection of delicious treats and the best view of Paarl Rock!
This Saturday, the 12th of March 2011, in the annual OmniBerg Round the Rock Festival.
We’ve put together a fantastic selection of activities for all ages. We don’t want to ruin all the surprises so here is a taste of what is on offer:
- A special breakfast and harvest menu at the Laborie Restaurant
- A blending competition with a 12 litre bottle of Laborie Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 awarded to the best blend
- A grape stomping competition with great prizes
- A children’s play area which will include face painting, balloon modelling and a magic show.
Plus our super popular Laborie Lazy Days Market will be open from 09h00 until 17h00. Yay! Oh and when you find your feet growing weary – which they will after all your grape stomping and wine blending activity – you can retire to our kuier tent where you’ll be able to enjoy the relaxing sounds of the Sterling Electric Quartet.
